At a Glance: Cheollipo Arboretum offers a stunning variety of plants and serene landscapes, making it a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.
I almost skipped Cheollipo Arboretum (천리포수목원) during my trip to Taean-gun. Honestly, I didn’t think an arboretum could hold my interest. But once I arrived and saw the extensive plant collections, I realized this place has its own unique charm that showcases Korea’s botanical diversity.
What makes Cheollipo Arboretum (천리포수목원) worth visiting?
Cheollipo Arboretum is home to over 16,830 types of plants, including holly, magnolia, camellia, and maple trees. The national flower, Rose of Sharon, can be found in five different varieties here. This vast collection makes it a significant destination for plant enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
The arboretum was established by Min Byung-gal (Carl Ferris Miller), who started planting trees on the site in 1970. It wasn’t until 2009 that parts of the garden opened to the public. The Miller Garden is the primary area accessible to visitors and offers a lovely setting for a leisurely stroll while enjoying nature.
