Arriving at Cheong Maesil Farm (홍쌍리 청매실농원) in early March, I was greeted by the sight of budding plum trees. The crisp air and bright sunshine set the stage for a day of exploration. As I walked through the farm, the colors of spring began to emerge, painting a picturesque landscape that draws visitors year after year.
Cheong Maesil Farm is a sprawling 165,000 m² area located at the foothills of Baegunsan Mountain in Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do. Managed by the well-known “Plum Blossom Doctor,” Hong Ssang-ri, this farm specializes in cultivating various types of plums. The farm is particularly famous for its stunning plum blossom display each March, along with other flowering trees like cornelian cherries.
Beyond the beauty of the flowers, visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the Pavilion Observatory. This vantage point offers breathtaking sights of Gwangyang Maehwa Village and Seomjingang River. With so much to see and do, it’s no wonder that this location has become worth trying destination during the spring season. Something to think about.
Is it worth the trip?
Definitely. If you appreciate nature and vibrant floral displays, Cheong Maesil Farm is a fantastic place to spend a day. The annual plum festival held in March adds to its appeal, featuring cultural performances and local delicacies related to plums.
Look, for families, there’s an interactive plum picking program available in June during harvest season. This activity provides kids with hands-on experience while allowing parents to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty. It’s important to note that while there are many attractions here, some areas can get crowded during peak blooming times.
How to plan your visit?
The farm operates from 08:00 to 17:00 every day of the year, making it easy to fit into your travel schedule. There’s ample parking available on-site if you’re driving; just consider arrive early during weekends in spring when visitor numbers peak.

What I would do differently next time
