Not everyone will enjoy a visit to Neungganggyegok Valley and Eoreumgol Valley (능강계곡, 얼음골). if you want busy activities or nightlife, this is not the place for you. However, if you appreciate serene nature, stunning landscapes, and a cooler climate in summer, this valley is worth exploring.
What was my first impression of Neungganggyegok Valley?
The moment I stepped into Neungganggyegok Valley, I felt a wave of calm wash over me. The surrounding mountains provide a natural barrier against the hustle and bustle of urban life. Even during the height of summer, the air here remains refreshingly cool.
I was not expecting this, but the lush greenery enveloped me as I wandered through the paths. Honestly, I was surprised at how tranquil it felt compared to other tourist spots in Korea. This is where it gets interesting—the name Eoreumgol means ‘ice valley,’ reflecting how even in summer, ice can linger due to the shaded environment.
What parts of Eoreumgol Valley stood out?
Eoreumgol Valley itself offers mesmerizing views with its unique geographical features. The water flows from here into Cheongpungho Lake, creating picturesque sights that are great for photography enthusiasts. As I strolled along the streams and waterfalls, I found myself stopping frequently to appreciate the vibrant flora and fauna.
A key highlight is the various trails that wind through this area. Some paths lead to viewpoints overlooking the lake where you can sit and simply soak in nature’s beauty. Trust me on this one; it’s worth taking a moment just to listen to the sounds of water flowing and birds chirping. Something to consider when planning your trip.

If you’re using public transportation, taking a bus from Jecheon bus terminal will be your best bet. Check local schedules as they can vary seasonally but generally run regularly throughout daylight hours.
A few things to keep in mind
One thing that bugged me a little was how some signs could be more informative regarding trail directions or points of interest. If you’re planning on spending several hours exploring, consider bring snacks or water since there aren’t any facilities nearby once you’re out there enjoying nature.
