At a Glance: Yeongju Museom Village (영주 무섬마을) offers a glimpse into traditional Korean culture, set in a picturesque riverside location.
Initially, I thought Yeongju Museom Village would just be another tourist spot, but it quickly proved me wrong. The beauty of the hanok (traditional Korean houses) and the natural setting captivated me. Nestled by two converging streams, this village is a unique blend of history and scenery that deserves more attention.
What can you see at Yeongju Museom Village (영주 무섬마을)?
Yeongju Museom Village showcases several historic hanok, including the Manjukje House, which dates back to 1666. This house is considered the oldest in the village and provides insights into traditional architecture and lifestyle. Not far from it lies Haeudang House, another significant structure filled with charm and character.
Aside from the houses, visitors can stroll along the Single Log Bridge, which has an interesting backstory. For over 350 years, this narrow bridge was the village’s only link to the outside world. Although it was replaced by Sudo Bridge in 1979, the original bridge was rebuilt to celebrate its historical importance. If you’re visiting in October, keep an eye out for the Single-Log Bridge Festival.
What are the best and worst parts of visiting Yeongju Museom Village (영주 무섬마을)?
The best part of visiting this village is undoubtedly its peaceful ambiance and stunning natural scenery. Surrounded by water and lush forests, it’s an ideal place for leisurely walks or simply soaking in nature. I personally enjoyed wandering through the various hanok while taking photographs; the settings are good for capturing those postcard moments.
On the downside, there aren’t many dining options within the village itself. You might want to bring snacks or plan to eat elsewhere after your visit. Also, while the accommodations are available through Hanokstay experiences, they may not always offer modern amenities you might expect from hotels. I thought that was a nice touch.
