At a Glance: Intercontinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Resort offers a luxurious alpine escape with year-round activities in scenic Gangwon-do.
Arriving at the Intercontinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Resort (인터컨티넨탈 알펜시아 평창 리조트) was a mix of anticipation and surprise. I expected a typical high-end resort, but I was impressed by its stunning alpine setting and a plethora of activities available. Situated at an altitude of 700 meters on the ridge of Taebaeksan Mountain, the resort blends luxury with natural beauty seamlessly.
What is Intercontinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Resort (인터컨티넨탈 알펜시아 평창 리조트) exactly?
This resort is more than just a place to stay; it’s a full-fledged leisure destination. Facilities include the Olympic Sky Park and Ocean 700 Water Park, both good for families looking to enjoy outdoor activities. If you’re into golf, you’ll find two impressive courses designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr.: a 27-hole championship course and an 18-hole public course.
The resort also features a number of relaxation spots like the Club Intercontinental Lounge, where guests can unwind. There’s even a children’s play area called ‘Planet Trackers’—ideal if you’re traveling with kids. The spa facilities offer eco-nature therapy, making it a great spot to decompress after outdoor adventures. I found that pretty refreshing.
Is it worth the trip?
Absolutely, if you’re seeking an upscale retreat with plenty to do. The surrounding nature adds to its charm, providing ample opportunities for hiking and enjoying scenic views. On days when we didn’t want to venture out, relaxing in the open-air Jacuzzi overlooking Daegwallyeong was simply blissful.
While I loved the overall experience, one downside was that some areas felt a bit crowded during peak seasons. If you prefer peace and quiet, consider visiting during off-peak times or midweek instead.
How to plan your visit?
Planning ahead will enhance your stay significantly. The resort is located at 325 Solbong-ro, Daegwannyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. It’s accessible via public transport; you can take an express bus from Seoul or other major cities. For those driving, it’s about a two-hour journey from Seoul.
Before heading there, check out their official site or call the 1330 Travel Hotline at +82-2-1330 for up-to-date information in Korean, English, Japanese, or Chinese. Keep in mind that room rates vary greatly depending on the season—from around ₩200,000 (about $148 USD) on weekdays to higher prices during holidays. Let me know if you have a different experience.
What I would do differently next time
If I’m being honest, I wish I had booked my spa treatments earlier; they fill up quickly during busy seasons. Also, I found myself underestimating how much time to allocate for each activity—there’s just so much to do that it can feel overwhelming without a plan.
A tip I’d give you: make use of the restaurant offerings. The on-site restaurant Flavor serves international dishes which are quite good but can get busy during meal times—reservations might save you waiting time. Next time, I’d likely prioritize dining reservations as well as golf tee times.
