At a Glance: Dochodo Island (도초도) offers stunning gardens and beaches, making it a perfect getaway for nature lovers and peace seekers.
Have you ever found yourself daydreaming about a peaceful escape where nature takes center stage? I did, and that’s how I ended up on Dochodo Island (도초도). Nestled within Dadohaehaesang National Park in Sinan, this tranquil spot caught me off guard with its beautiful landscapes and serene atmosphere.
What was my first impression of Dochodo Island (도초도)?
The moment I arrived at Dochodo Island, I was greeted by a striking garden filled with over 700 pine trees. This lush entryway set the tone for the rest of my visit. It’s a great spot to stretch your legs after the drive and soak in the natural beauty before diving deeper into the island’s offerings.
As I walked further in, the vibrant hydrangea park came into view. The sheer number of flowers blooming in June was a sight to behold. The variety of colors creates a picturesque scene that many travelers miss if they visit at another time of year. Anyway, moving on.
What parts of Dochodo Island (도초도) stood out?
One standout feature is Simok Beach located on the southern side of the island. The beach is part of the Dadohaehaesang National Park and offers clear waters good for a relaxing day by the sea. I took a stroll along the shoreline and noticed that it’s less crowded than other tourist hotspots, which was a refreshing change.
The hydrangea park is also worth mentioning again. With around 30,000 flowers blooming, it’s hard not to stop and take pictures. If you’re into photography or just enjoy flowers, plan your visit for June to witness this colorful spectacle. Let me know if you have a different experience.
How do you get to Dochodo Island (도초도) and get around?
Reaching Dochodo Island can be done by car or bus, but driving is usually more convenient since it allows you to explore at your own pace. From Mokpo, it takes about an hour’s drive to reach the island. There’s ample parking available once you arrive.
If public transport suits you better, buses run regularly from nearby cities like Mokpo. Just keep in mind that service may vary on weekends or holidays. Once you’re on the island, walking is your best bet as most attractions are close together.
A few things to keep in mind when visiting Dochodo Island (도초도)
Open 24 hours a day, Dochodo Island welcomes visitors year-round without any closures. That said, summer months might be busier due to school vacations, so plan accordingly if you prefer quieter times. Bring sunscreen for those sunny days at Simok Beach; trust me on this one.
Another practical tip: while there are no entry fees to access most parts of the island, having some cash handy can be useful for snacks or small purchases at local vendors. And don’t forget to bring water as options may be limited once you start exploring deeper into the island.
