At a Glance: Deogyusan Resort offers year-round activities and stunning mountain views, making it a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
One thing that caught me off guard about Deogyusan Resort (무주덕유산리조트(구, 부영덕유산리조트)) was just how expansive and well-integrated it is with the surrounding natural beauty. Initially, I thought it was just another ski resort, but the variety of activities and facilities available throughout the year made me realize it’s much more than that.
The first thing that struck me upon arrival at Deogyusan Resort was the sheer scale of the area. located in Mt. Deogyusan National Park, it spans over 2.2 million pyeong (about 7.3 million square meters), offering breathtaking views of the mountains. The resort has an Alps-style hotel that immediately sets a cozy yet upscale tone for visitors.
The atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed, which made settling in quite easy. There were plenty of families enjoying various activities, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement as I observed people gearing up for skiing or hiking. You might feel differently though.
What parts of Deogyusan Resort stood out to me?
Several aspects really made this place memorable. For one, the ski courses are impressive; they cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned skiers. The main skiing area at Manseonbong Peak (1,215m) has a lift capable of handling 13,000 people at once—now that’s efficiency!
After spending some time on the slopes, I highly recommend unwinding in the outdoor hot springs that overlook snow-covered mountains. This unique feature adds a luxurious touch after an exhilarating day outdoors. Plus, there are other activities available like mountain biking and horse riding if you’re looking to switch things up.
How do you get to Deogyusan Resort?
Getting to Deogyusan Resort is relatively straightforward whether you’re driving or using public transport. If you decide to drive from Seoul, expect about a three-hour journey covering approximately 200 kilometers via expressways.
If you’re relying on public transportation, take a bus from Seoul’s Nambu Bus Terminal to Muju-gun; these buses run frequently throughout the day. Once you reach Muju-gun, local buses can take you directly to the resort in about 30 minutes.
A few things to keep in mind when visiting
The resort offers diverse amenities and activities all year long. But here’s something most guides won’t mention: be prepared for possible crowds during peak ski season from December to February. Arriving early can make a huge difference in avoiding long lines for lifts.
The cost for lift tickets varies; expect around ₩50,000 (about $37 USD) for adult day passes during winter.
If you’re planning on dining within the resort, remember that tipping is not customary in Korea—your meal will include service charges automatically.
If you want to pick up some souvenirs or enjoy local food options while you’re there, check out Carnival Street within the resort area; it’s filled with shops offering various products at reasonable prices.
