At a Glance: Baekdohaebyeon Beach (백도해변) offers tranquil white sands and family-friendly waters in Goseong-gun, perfect for a peaceful getaway.
Baekdohaebyeon Beach (백도해변) is a serene spot located in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, known for its stunning white sand and calm waters. If you’re looking for a beach that feels more like a hidden oasis than a crowded tourist destination, this is the place to consider.
Baekdohaebyeon Beach is characterized by its crescent shape and pristine sands, making it ideal for families. The beach features unique rock formations nearby and is surrounded by lush pine forests. You’ll also notice the prominent red lighthouse at the right end of the beach — it’s a great backdrop for photos.
The shallow waters are inviting and good for children or those who prefer a gentler swim. Just be aware that while the scenery is beautiful, you might find fewer amenities here compared to busier beaches. Just something to keep in mind.
Is it worth the trip?
Absolutely. The tranquility of Baekdohaebyeon makes it an ideal retreat if you’re escaping the hustle of city life. It’s approximately 20 kilometers north of Sokcho, which usually takes about 30 minutes by car. The natural landscape here is stunning, with picturesque views that make it worthwhile.
While visiting, you might want to take advantage of nearby hiking trails that lead through the scenic coastal areas. Some visitors enjoy picnicking on the beach or exploring rock pools during low tide.
How to plan your visit
For those driving, parking is available at Baekdohaebyeon with space for around 100 small vehicles. However, if you’re camping nearby, keep in mind that only one vehicle is allowed per campsite due to limited space. Camping trailers aren’t permitted here either, which could be a downside if you’re planning on bringing one.
The best time to visit is during late spring or early autumn when temperatures are pleasant and crowds are smaller. Don’t forget to bring your own food as dining options can be limited; there are few local eateries around. You might want to pack snacks or a picnic if you’re planning on spending an entire day there.
What I would do differently next time
If I had another chance to visit Baekdohaebyeon Beach, I’d probably plan for an earlier arrival. Honestly, having extra time before noon means more quiet moments by the water and better chances to enjoy the sunrise views over the ocean.
You might also consider bringing some outdoor games or books since lounging in such peaceful surroundings can be refreshing yet slightly dull without activities. And while I enjoyed my time there, I felt like my experience would have been even better with some local treats from nearby markets—next time!
