I wasn’t expecting much when I decided to visit Deokgu Spaworld (덕구온천스파월드). Honestly, I thought it would be just another hot spring. But as soon as I stepped into the serene surroundings of Eungbongsan Mountain, I realized how wrong I was.
The main attraction at Deokgu Spaworld is its natural hot springs, recognized as Gyeongsangbuk-do’s No. 1 National Hot Spring by the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. The water here is slightly alkaline, reaching a soothing temperature of 42.4℃. It’s known for its health benefits, particularly for conditions like arthritis and skin disorders.
This place features not only hot springs but also a range of facilities including a Teraqua area, action spa, outdoor suntan space, and private spa rooms. The views around the springs are stunning; you’ll find unique rock formations and crystal-clear waters flowing from the valley that add to the overall ambiance.
How do you get to Deokgu Spaworld?
Reaching Deokgu Spaworld is relatively straightforward if you’re driving. It’s located at 924 Deokguoncheon-ro in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, about 3 hours east of Seoul by car. Parking is ample with around 2,000 spaces available.
If public transport is more your style, there are buses that connect from major cities like Daegu to Uljin. Once you arrive in Uljin, local taxis can take you directly to the spa. Just remember to check the bus schedules ahead of time since they may vary on weekends. Your experience might differ, of course.
What should you know before visiting?
Admission fees are quite reasonable: it costs ₩10,000 (about $7 USD) for adults to access the hot springs and ₩7,000 (about $5 USD) for children. For Spa World access during high season—mid-December through March 1 or mid-July through August—the prices jump to ₩36,000 (about $27 USD) for adults and ₩28,000 (about $21 USD) for children.
The operating hours are convenient too; the hot springs open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. Spa World has extended hours during high seasons on weekends until 8:00 PM. Just a heads up though: it can get busy on weekends and holidays, so arriving early will give you a better chance to enjoy the facilities without too much crowding. Take that with a grain of salt though.
